Taking Effective Notes

l Taking lecture notes.

At this point, taking lecture note is very important thing. There are to provide students :

ü To be an active listener.
ü Provides an accurate record of an information.
ü Opportunity to interpret, condense and organise information.
ü Opportunity for repetition of the material.

To become a successful student, learning and practising taking effective notes will us much especially when the exam is coming. We don’t have much time to read the whole book in a time.

l Take every note of each module.

Write note for every module that given by the lecture. Don’t skipped doing note or it might adding your work and time.

What is Note Taking ?

Note taking is a work of writing down ideas from lecture and reading in our own words. In reminder, taking lecture notes is very important. Take all the lecture notes without delaying. Make sure to read before attend to the class. When, you already read before class, you only wrote down the note for certain add. This is because you already know and only need to correct some misunderstand during self reading. The simple way that will help you by doing mind map. Some students maybe like to write in point. Make it in your way as long as you taking notes by your own creativity.

Why Taking Notes?

Taking lecture notes will help us much. Do taking notes either before or after class. But how we want to take lecture note and heard the lecture at the same time? That is why students need and must to try read a topic that gonna learnt before entering the class. So, it will help us to pay attention during the class in every point that lecture gave.

Plus, taking note probably will avoid student to fall asleep during the class. Especially, for those students that like to sit at the back of classes, they might have a big chance to sleep in the class.

Furthermore, taking notes will help us study for quiz, tests and final exam. When we taking notes it will help us to review the module or topic easily by referring the point that have taken in the note that we make. This is because we just wrote down the important point and will refresh the whole chapter.

Then, it will lead us improve our memory. When we read the chapter and taking notes our memory will keep it even when we want to review the chapter again. We probably don’t have problem when want to review the notes. Our memory got easily remind and the memory become strong without need to push harder to memorise every module that we learnt.

Other than that, is to take ownership of ideas. But the problem in the university that will related to most of the students is plagiarism. The act of copying others’ sources. Plagiarism is one of the main issue that every students need to avoid. This is happen because some of the student are lazy to read, then did the copying without do any paraphrasing or describes with their own words using their own creativity.

Taking notes also engage our senses. This is because we only get 5% if we only watching during the class. While, the other 95% are by reading and review the notes for each module. So, the steps are we need to read, write, and review the notes to receive the left of 95%.

Next, it will helps us to organise and process data and information. This is because we easily can organise every chapter that lecture gave. Every chapter have sub-chapter that we need to analysis and organise. When we already read and understand every chapter even not the whole things we got easily to organise those when it totally were gave in randomly.

In addition, some of the lecture like to give the students a test by doing pop quiz. They actually want to test the students on how well they captured all the information given. In conclusion, that is why taking lecture note is very important to students. Don’t ever take it easy and might help you manage your time properly especially when lack of time.

Why Review Notes?

Reviewing notes that we take during the class help us to refresh the topic again and to be remember. This is because what we learn during the class will lose about 80% of what we hear if it is not reviewed within a few hours. Review all the notes before the lecture begins.

Some of the lecture don’t like the students to do other work and pay attention on them by eye contact. So, sit on the lecture’s line vision and make eye contact with them to pay more attention on them.

Identify any questions for peers. Prepared any questions related to the topic for the next class by asking to the lecture. Students must don’t be shy to ask question to the lecture. Always having a connection with your lecture to help and teach you the topic that you don’t understand.

Next, students need to work progressively. There is not enough time to absorb all the information give in class if didn’t reviewed on a regular basis. Every student have different ability in their major subject. For example, student A good in English while student B good in Chemistry. That is why form a study group will help much in studying. Plus, do review back at night.

Always think that the lecture will make a tested tomorrow and this always lead you to be ready and prepared. Take your time everyday to review note.

l Recapture Notes After Class. It is different when you just re-copying the notes given but you need to digest it and understand all the notes.

l Practise and teach yourself to write in quick and shorten during class.

l Always be ready to write note and prepared suitable stationary such as pen, paper and more.

l Before entering class review your notes from the day before and also read your assignment.

l Write the date at the top of your paper notes. Later, you will get easily to organise it.

l Leaves spaces between the lines. So, that you can add information later for any addition.
